Cow Urine: A Divine Medicine

Cow Urine: A Divine Medicine

In Hindu-majority India, many believe the cow is sacred and often call the animal the "cow mother." Cow milk and ghee, a type of clarified butter, are widely used in Hindu religious ceremonies.

The cow is not only valued for its dairy products, but also for its urine. Those who use cow urine believe it has the power to promote wellness and even cure illness.

It's become a bustling business, however, it is unclear how much the industry is worth. Virendra Kumar Jain, founder of Jain's Cow Urine Therapy Health Clinic in the central Indian city of Indore, said that the interest in cow urine has grown strongly over the last several years.

Cow urine has also found its way into the personal care and home products market. One of India's biggest traditional medicine brands, Patanjali Ayurved, sells a range of products based on cow urine, including a drink and floor cleaner.

Cow Urine is used for purposes of therapy in traditional Indian medicine and is called Gomutra. The use of cow urine for therapeutic purposes has a long history in Indian culture. In India, cow is considered to be a sign of spirituality. Urine from a cow that is pregnant is believed to contain special minerals and hormones. Thanks to its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, cow urine is an excellent antibiotic that can be taken daily to destroy pathogens and increase one’s immunity. It is therefore recommended as a therapeutic solution for curing an array of diseases, ranging from respiratory disorders to diabetes, skin problems, heart ailments, and gynaecological issues such as dysmenorrhoea.

  • It is highly effective as an anti-fungal for skin rashes and infections.
  • Herbal preparations made using cow’s urine instead of water have shown increased anti-diabetic activity in rats.
  • Cow urine is used in combination with other natural adjuvants such as curd, pepper, triphala, neem bark, and loh bhasma to treat conditions such as fever, epilepsy, and anemia.

Having cow urine regularly is even recommended under normal health conditions as it helps to maintain bodily balance and counter aging, tension, liver ailments, and cholesterol. Each of its components has a role to play – immunity is boosted by the component aurum hydroxide; ammonia keeps the blood purified; the copper and calcium content protects the bones; and the high nitrogen content keeps the kidneys and liver healthy.
